I joined Scouts as a leader because I participated in something similar as a child and want other kids to have the same opportunity. Scouts is an excellent way for kids to learn outdoor skills, practice leadership, and be involved in their community. It is rewarding to see our diverse groups of kids growth together!
As an engineer for local government, I also like how Scouts helps the group connect with and contribute to their community and I enjoy helping the Cubs learn critical thinking (and have fun).
I came to 76th Burnaby Scouts with very limited camping skills and some pretty questionable knot abilities. Since then I have learned so much from both my fellow Scouters as well as the kids, and I've found that learning is just as much fun as teaching. Thanks to the wide range of knowledge in our group, there is always an expert in just about every subject that I can turn to for Scouter support. We have a great time creating the activities for the Cubs and I believe our enjoyment is infectious for the kids as well.
In my other life I'm a Technical Producer for Visual (what was once known as Television) and Radio broadcasts. I enjoy bringing Technology-related activities into Cubs. I sincerely try to come up with projects that won't drive the Cub's families TOO crazy when they bring them home.
I joined Scouts because I love camping and giving back to my community both personally and professionally.
As a Firefighter and First Responder I bring a safety perspective and hands on emergency skills to teach the Pack.
My involvement with Scouts began in 2022, when I joined the 1st Southwest Burnaby Scouts as a Beaver Scouter. I was motivated to volunteer based on my son’s enjoyment in the Beavers program and his persistent encouragement for me to become a Scouter.
In 2023, when my son began Cubs with the 76th Burnaby Scouts, I decided to continue volunteering as a Cub leader. Having enjoyed my volunteer experience in Beavers, it was an easy decision. I was also excited by the opportunity to contribute to a group that embraces year- round outdoor programming.
My time with Scouts has brought me full circle to my own childhood, where I spent many years in Girl Guides. That experience provided me with lifelong friendships, strong outdoor and leadership skills, and a deep commitment to community service and environmental stewardship.
Through Scouts, I hope to support youth to experience the same sense of meaningful connections, skill-building, and commitments to community and the environment that shaped my own journey. I also hope to witness their growth and development as thoughtful, engaged members of our local and global communities. In parallel, I hope to continue developing my own knowledge and skills, while modeling the Cub Scout motto to “do your best.”
